Calls Keep SL Firefighters Busy

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Spirit Lake firefighters have been kept busy with calls the past 24 hours.

Fire Chief David Kollasch says the first call came in around 10:30 p.m. Monday when they were called to a report of a fire in the welding area on the southwest side of Polaris Industries.

Kollasch says some sparks apparently ignited inside a some filters. He says firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, which was contained to the filters.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were on the scene about 45 minutes to an hour.

Spirit Lake firefighters were then called this (Tuesday) morning to a report of a fire in the lower level of the Antler’s Hotel building. Kollasch says that part of the building is being remodeled. He says some insulation and papers near a furnace caught fire and started smoking. Kollasch says most of the fire was out when crews arrived. He says they spent about 45 minutes ventilating the building.

No injuries were reported in that fire as well and damage was contained to a small area near the furnace.
