(Undated)– Area businesses are being warned about some scams making the rounds.
One of them was reported at a lakes area restaurant. Officials say it involved a 50-year-old man who wanted a cash reimbursement for a meal he said he had ordered to go, claiming it wasn’t cooked properly. He told a clerk what it was he had supposedly ordered. However, the clerk could find no record of such an order after doing a computer check. It also showed there were no cash sales in the amount the man described.
The other report comes from a business in Windom, Minnesota where officials say a customer tried to pay for services with a 500-dollar traveler’s check, asking for the difference back in cash. The business didn’t have enough cash on hand to complete the transaction. A subsequent investigation found the traveler’s check was counterfeit.
Officials say the same scam was also attempted at a business in Worthington.
