(Undated)– Bans on open burning remain in effect until further notice for most counties in northwest Iowa, including Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Lyon, O’Brien, Osceola, Plymouth, Pocahontas and Sioux counties.
Bans or restrictions on open burning are also in place for several counties in southwest Minnesota.
Even though rain fell across most of the region Wednesday and earlier in the week, officials say it wasn’t nearly enough to alleviate the fire danger.
Clay County Sheriff Randy Krukow says his office continues to receive and act on complaints of people burning. Violators are subject to being cited with a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine.
