(Estherville)– A ban on open burning in Emmet county goes into effect tomorrow (Tues.) and will remain in place until further notice.
Emmet County Emergency Management Coordinator Travis Sheridan also serves as Estherville’s Fire Chief. He says the ongoing extremely dry conditions are posing a concern. Sheridan says the county’s fire chiefs feel it’s best to mitigate the risk for residents, responders and equipment.
Anyone caught burning without first obtaining a permit will be subject to a misdemeanor.
Outdoor fire places, barbecue grills, properly supervised landfills, or the burning of trash in items made of metal, concrete, masonry, or heavy one-inch wire mesh with no openings greater that one square inch are exempt from the ban, which will remain in place until further notice.
