Burn Ban Now In Effect For Palo Alto County

March 11, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Emmetsburg)– Another county in the region has implemented a ban on open burning. Palo Alto county has prohibited open burning until further notice. The ban there went into effect at 11:00 am today (Monday, March 11th) and remains in effect until further notice.

A similar ban in Emmet county goes into effect Tuesday (March 12th).

Anyone caught burning without a permit is subject to a misdemeanor.

The ban does not pertain to barbecues, outdoor fireplaces, properly supervised landfills, or the burning of trash in devices made of metal, concrete, masonry, or heavy one-inch wire mesh, with no openings greater than one square inch.
