Bulls & Brews Coming Up This Weekend In Spencer

March 06, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– A big event is coming to the Clay County Regional Events Center this weekend. “Bulls and Brews” will be taking place Friday and Saturday. Jason Brockshus of the Clay County Regional Events Center says the event will consist of craft beer sampling, bull riding competitions and concessions…

“It’s been several years since bull riding has been in the Events Center and this time we decided to pair it with some craft beer tasting. So in the past we’ve had our Northwest Iowa Beer Fest and a live band. This year we’ve mixed it up a little bit and we’re having our craft beer tasting from 5:00 to 8:00 Friday and Saturday nights this weekend and then having bull riding in the Events Center arena from 7:00 until that show is done. Kind of a combination of some things old but putting it together in a new way.”

Brockshus says bull riders will be coming to Spencer from throughout the upper Midwest…

“We’ve partnered with our promoter, Dylan Swanson, with Raise and Rank, kind of a new promoter, he’s actually from Canton, South Dakota. He has about a dozen shows each year that go all around the Midwest. He does some indoor venues and outdoor fairs. He’s got a full slate of 40 bull riders and the unique thing is it’s kind of early in the season so a lot of the top bull riders in the country are looking for place to keep their skills sharp and so I think it’s going to be a really good show. He has a full slate of 40 bull riders and the big bulls will be buckin’. The neat thing about Dylan, too, is he’s all about youth education so he may have some exhibitions of some youth riders. He raises bulls himself and the way you get good in that sport is to practice on bulls that are a little less experienced too and don’t buck quite as hard so those young folks can learn how to get their techniques down, but it’s just a really good combination and a really good promoter we’re working with.”

Tickets are available at claycountyfair.com. Brockshus says there is a limited number of tickets available and that they’ve been selling quickly.

Doors will open at 5:00 pm both Friday and Saturday.
