(Sioux Rapids)– A single-vehicle crash Thursday evening in Buena Vista county claimed the life of a teenager.
The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office says 15-year-old Alyssa Vanderhoff of Marathon was northbound on a gravel road about a quarter of a mile north of Highway 10 when the driver’s side wheels of the pickup she was driving partially entered the ditch. Deputies say Vanderhoff over-corrected in an attempt to regain control, causing the pickup to roll into the east ditch.
Deputies say Vanderhoff, who was ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities were called to the scene around 7:18 p.m.
They add the crash remains under investigation.
The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on the scene by the Sioux Rapids Police and Fire Departments, Sioux Rapids and Buena Vista Regional Medical Center ambulances and the Buena Vista County Medical Examiner’s Office.
