Birding on the Green to start May 6 at Brooks Golf Course

April 29, 2024 Becky Thoreson

(Okoboji)-The Birding on the Green Program is about to get underway for the season. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:

The Dickinson County Nature Center is once again collaborating with Brooks Golf for another season of Birding on the Green.

Community Relations Coordinator Amy Heibult says, the program is for bird lovers of all ages. “This is a program that we partnered up with Brooks Golf. Brooks Golf provides the golf carts for folks to come out and this program is for anyone from any knowledge level, whether you’re a beginner or an expert. So, on May 6th, we are starting at 7 a.m. in the Brooks Golf parking lot. We’ll pair up into golf carts, we’ll kind of tour around the course and see what we can see. We’re looking and hearing for different species and we’ll try to create a list as long as we can.”

She adds that the President of the Jackson County Birdwatchers will lead the program. “Don Vrchota, he’s out of Lakefield, Minnesota. He’s a crop farmer and carpenter by trade, and he’s been passionate about birding for a long time. He’s going to be our expert leading the group alongside the Dickinson County Nature Center Staff.”

The program will be held on the first Monday of the month through September, and is free and open to the public.
