The barrier is intended to prevent any additional asian carp from getting into the Iowa Great Lakes. The project took on renewed importance after several asian carp were caught in seigning nets earlier this past summer. Since then, Hawkins says there has been no indication of any more of the invasive species in the Iowa Great Lakes.
