(Spencer)– A major construction project at Spencer Hospital is moving forward. The hospital’s board of trustees this week awarded a bid of a little more than $16.9 million for the construction of a new emergency department. Additional expenses for equipment, supplies and professional fees bring the total cost of the project to $22 million.
The new emergency department will be constructed on East 11th Street between the Medical Arts Building and the hospital. Additional and larger treatment rooms, two trauma bays and two rooms dedicated for the care of behavioral health patients will be included, along with a larger waiting area, a two-stall ambulance garage, and an access for out of town ambulances transporting patients to the hospital.
Construction is expected to start in the next 30 days with completion tentatively scheduled for early summer, 2024. L & L Builders of Sioux City will be the general contractor on the project.
