Back To School Shoppers In Iowa Will Catch A Break This Weekend

August 04, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Des Moines)– Back-to-school shoppers in Iowa will get a bit of a break when the annual tax-free weekend starts tomorrow (Aug. 5th). It begins Friday at 12:01 A-M and runs through Saturday evening at 11:59.

Iowa Department of Revenue spokesman, John Fuller says there’s a list of what’s exempt from the state sales tax on their website, tax-dot-iowa-dot-gov. For example, hiking boots, which Fuller says could be worn every day, would be sales tax exempt as long as they’re under 100 dollars, while roller blades would NOT be exempt.

He also says online sales are included in the tax holiday, as long as those online purchases are made Friday and Saturday.
