Award To Pay Homage To Key Supporter And Founder Of Iowa Community Colleges

November 22, 2014

(Estherville)– A long-time area lawmaker is being honored with a special award that will be given annually on his behalf to deserving students at Iowa Lakes Community College.

Establishment of the John P. “Jack” Kibbie Outstanding Service Award was announced Thursday during the annual meeting of the Iowa Association of Community College Trustees in Okoboji.

College officials say they wanted a way to keep Senator Kibbie’s contributions to the Iowa Community College System in the hearts and minds of future students.

The award will honor up to three students each year who exemplify the spirit of service to the college community. The award will be presented at summer commencement. Faculty and staff will nominate students with the award recipients being selected by the college’s board of trustees.

Senator Kibbie in 1965 sponsored a bill to create Iowa’s Community Colleges and has remained a steadfast supporter since.
