Automatic Shut-off Fails On Pump; 20 Gallons Of Gas Overflows At Okoboji Convenience Store

November 22, 2014

(Okoboji)– Authorities say an estimated 20 gallons of unleaded gasoline spilled this (Friday) morning at the Casey’s General Store in Okoboji.

Chris Yungbluth of the Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire and Rescue says a vehicle had been fueling up when the automatic stop function on the pump malfunctioned, causing gas to overflow on a cement area around the pump.

Firefighters put down an absorbent material to contain the gasoline due to concern over flammable vapors and a possible environmental impact.

Firefighters were on the scene about an hour.

No injuries were reported.

Yungbluth says it serves as a good reminder to stay at the pump while fueling.
