(Emmetsburg)—Authorities say you need to be wary if you receive a call from someone claiming to be with the Social Security Administration telling you they’re issuing new cards and that they need your Social Security number. They say it’s the latest in a series of so-called “phishing” scams…or attempts to get personal information.
Authorities say the caller also asks for bank account information.
They once again remind everyone to never give out such information over the telephone. Instead, they say you should hang up and call whatever agency you got the call from to see if it’s legit.
There have been reports of such calls being made people to in our area recently.
