(Okoboji)– Authorities are again reminding everyone of the dangers of doing any open burning right now. The Arnolds Park-Okoboji Fire Department was called to a ditch fire late this (Wed.) morning in the area of 6015 Lakeshore Drive, in the Haywards Bay area on West Lake Okoboji. A passerby with a skid loader had most of the fire put out by the time firefighters arrived. Officials say no homes were threatened. Firefighters were on the scene less than a half hour.
Officials say extremely dry vegetation, low humidity and high wind are combining to create a very high fire danger. Those conditions are expected to continue through the day Thursday before a cold front brings some chances of rain to the region Thursday night and into the upcoming weekend.
