(Spirit Lake)– Authorities have released the name of an apparent drowning victim Sunday on West Lake Okoboji.
The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office identifies the man as 35-year-old Juan Miguel Gonzales of Sioux City.
Authorities say Gonzales had been on a boat with friends in the Hayward’s Bay area on the east side of the lake and didn’t re-surface.
Authorities were called to the scene around 5:00 p.m. It was estimated that about 10 to 15 minutes had elapsed between when the incident actually happened and when it was reported.
The search for Gonzales continued early this afternoon and is still being based out of the Pikes Point area. The park has been closed to the public until further notice. Authorities are searching an area about 90 acres in size and in about 40 feet of water.
An aerial search was also underway along the shoreline of the lake.
