(Paullina)– Officials have released information into a fire Christmas Eve in Paullina that destroyed a building and its contents and resulted in the evacuation of some nearby residents.
The Paullina Fire Department was called a little after 6:00 am that morning to a business at 4551 Redwing Avenue and found a portion of the building engulfed in fire. Fire departments from five other communities were called for assistance. Authorities say the presence of a large propane tank in the structure prompted the evacuation of nearby residents, who were taken to the South O’Brien High School. They were allowed to return to their homes a couple of hours later after it was determined the danger had subsided.
The loss was estimated to be close to a million dollars.
No injuries were reported in the blaze. Officials say the State Fire Marshal’s Office is looking into a possible cause.
Firefighters were on the scene about four hours.
