(Spirit Lake)– Local authorities say you should be a bit leery of door-to-door salesmen selling fire extinguishers.
The Dickinson County Emergency Management Agency says the salesmen claim the fire departments in the county have endorsed the product. The agency says that while it strongly recommends that every home have atleast one fire extinguisher, that fire departments do not endorse any particular company or brand of extinguisher.
The chiefs encourage residents to purchase an extinguisher, but only after they do their own research to determine what type is best for their particular use.
It’s also recommended whatever extinguisher you purchase be UL rated.
Residents with any questions on what type of extinguisher to purchase should contact their local fire chief.
