Authorities Investigate Attempted Suicide At Dickinson County Jail

(Spirit Lake)– The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office says a Detroit, Michigan man has tried to kill himself while in jail.

Authorities say a jailer discovered 21-year-old David Strang unresponsive in his jail cell shortly before 7:00 p.m. Monday.

Jail staff, responding law enforcement officers and EMS personnel administered life-saving measures. Strang was then transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare and was life-flighted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. Information on his condition wasn’t immediately available.

Strang was being held in the Dickinson county jail pending trial on a charge of 3rd degree sexual abuse. His bond had been set at $10,000.

The incident is under investigation by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation.

The Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Spirit Lake Police Department, Spirit Lake First Responders and the Lakes Regional Healthcare Ambulance.
