(Okoboji)-Bird enthusiasts are encouraged to attend The Audubon Christmas Bird Count on Friday. KUOO’s Becky Thoreson has details:
The Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be held at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory on Friday.
Executive Director Mary Skopec says Birders of all abilities are encouraged to attend. “This is the Audubon Christmas Bird Count. It’s an annual event where Birders, amateur, professional go out and look for birds and they report them back to the Audubon Society and it gives us a pretty good indication of how birds in the country are doing. So, we’re looking for people to come out and join us in the Christmas Bird Count this year.”
She adds that participants should meet Friday morning at Lakeside Lab.
“This Friday at 7:30 we’re gonna have people meet at the Lakeside Dining Hall. They will be given a route and a place to go, a little bit of coffee and then we’re gonna send them on their way. They’ll go out for the morning to their assigned route and then come back to the Dining Hall with the counts of birds, the species of bird that they’ve seen. So, we’re just doing it on the morning of the 15th.”
