(Des Moines)– The Iowa State Auditor has identified more than $255,000 in uncollected fees at a teaching school at the University of Northern Iowa.
Auditor David Vaudt’s office says the audit, which examined the period of July 1, 2006 through March 31, 2009, followed an internal audit at the school.
According to a news release, there was a discrepancy in registration fees charged to nine families, including the former school director’s family, based on incorrectly reported addresses.
Vaudt’s office says it isn’t possible to determine if other fees went uncollected because student addresses couldn’t be verified for each year.
The report makes recommendations on documenting addresses and developing new policies.
Copies of the report were filed with state and local authorities.
David Smith is the former Director of the Price Laboratory School. He resigned from Price Lab in June after 14 years to become Superintendent of the Spirit Lake School District.
Officials say Price Lab has been under investigation since last April. No charges have been filed.
