Audit Findings May Determine Whether Former Superintendent Will Face Charges

November 22, 2014

(Royal)– Authorities still haven’t ruled out the possibility of criminal charges against the former Superintendent of the Clay Central-Everly School District accused of spending thousands of dollars of taxpayer money on himself.

School Board President Sue Brugman says the former Superintendent, Monte Montgomery, acknowledged spending atleast $25,000 without district authorization.

Montgomery abruptly resigned last month when it was announced the district was facing a $742,000 deficit.

Clay Central-Everly school board members have asked state auditors to determine how much Montgomery allegedly charged to a district credit card.

Brugman says Montgomery wrote a $25,000 check to the district last week, but it hasn’t been deposited. She doesn’t know if that would be enough to cover what was allegedly spent by Montgomery.

Robert Raymer has been hired as CCE interim Superintendent. Raymer served previously as Superintendent of the Sioux Rapids-Rembrandt district, before it was re-organized into Sioux Central. He also served previously as Superintendent of the Lawton-Branson district, and most recently at Armstrong-Ringsted.
