ATV Crash Injures Three

November 22, 2014

(Peterson)– A crash in Clay county involving an all-terrain-vehicle sent three people to the hospital.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office says 30-year-old Ryan Reed of Sibley was driving a 2008 Honda ATV on 120th Avenue south of 480th Street two miles north of Peterson when he lost control on the gravel road, causing it to slide sideways into the ditch. Upon impact the ATV became airborne, landed, then rolled.

Reed was able to contact family members who transported him and two passengers…a seven-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy…into Peterson where they met an ambulance. All were transported to a hospital and were then airlifted to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls with incapacitating injuries.

Three thousand dollars in damage was estimated to the ATV.

The incident took place around 7:00 p.m. Saturday.

Authorities say it remains under investigation and charges may be filed at a later date.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Peterson Fire and Rescue Unit.
