ATLAS Of Iowa Great Lakes To Hold Fundraiser & Public Awareness Event

July 08, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Spirit Lake)– An organization assisting local residents who are down on their luck will be holding a special event later this week. ATLAS of The Lakes Area, or Attaining Truth, Love and Self control, is a non-profit organization. Executive Director Tonya Kuranda tells KUOO news they provide a number of advocacy services to people in need…

“It could be just a financial setback, it could be toiletries, they need moving support, car repair, housing, food stamp applications, budgeting. Something may have just happened, maybe a surgery that sets them back. So for whatever reason, they come in and we meet with them. And when we meet with them, we form a relationship, we build trust, and we start to meet with them on a regular basis, say once a week, every two weeks, just depending on their situation and the uniqueness of that. And what really sets us apart is we’re not just offering temporary relief. We’re committed to breaking negative cycles and fostering lasting change.”

Kuranda says they’ll be holding a special event this Thursday, July 11th from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at The Well Coffee House in Spirit Lake. It’s been dubbed “The Happy Hour Fundraiser”, and will feature live musical entertainment along with information about ATLAS of The Lakes Area…

“A lot of people just don’t know we’re here; they don’t know what we do. So we want to get that word out, we want to try to spread that word out and so this will be an opportunity for that.”

Thursday’s event is free however Kuranda says freewill donations would be greatly appreciated.
