Storm Lake police say two individuals from Atlantic, Iowa have been charged following a domestic dispute at Kings Point Resort.
Officers were dispatched to the Storm Lake resort on Saturday night at about 7:40, where they were advised that a male party had reportedly been assaulted by a female in a guest room and the female was attempting to leave the room.
Upon arrival, officers detained Cody Hanson, age 29, and Heather Christensen, age 34. An investigation determined that both parties engaged in an argument in guest room at which time Christensen and her children ages 3 and 7 attempted to leave the room. Hanson allegedly assaulted Christensen and then blocked the door keeping her from leaving the room. Christensen then allegedly struck Hansen in the face with a cell phone injuring Hanson and then called 911.
During the investigation police conducted a search of Christensen’s vehicle at which time they seized drug paraphernalia allegedly related to the use of methamphetamine.
Christensen was arrested and charged with Domestic Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Child Endangerment, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (simple misdemeanor).
Police also arrested Hanson, on charges of false imprisonment and domestic assault.
Both were booked into the county jail and held without bond.
The two children, who were unharmed, were taken into protective custody by police and later released to a grandparent. A report has been made to the Iowa Department of Human Services.
