Authorities say they were called shortly before midnight to the 200 block of Main Street in Fostoria after getting a report of an assault. A few minutes later, they received another report of a stabbing at 217 1st Street Southwest in Fostoria.
Upon arriving deputies learned 42-year-old Justin Champine of Fostoria and 26-year-old Justin Burtis of Estherville were playing basketball and that 18-year-old Carl Gordon of Fostoria and 26-year-old Jacob Mersch of Fostoria were watching when a fight broke out between Gordon, Champine and Burtis. Deputies say Mersch then returned to the scene with a knife and upon arriving, saw Champine and Burtis enter Champine’s residence at 217 1st Street Southwest. Champine saw Gordon outside of a window and went outside where he allegedly confronted Gordon, resulting in lacerations to Champine. Burtis assisted Champine in taking the knife from Gordon and Gordon fled on foot. Deputies located him a short time later and Gordon, Mersch and Burtis were arrested and transported to the Clay county jail.
