Arnolds Park Restaurant Sustains Minor Damage In Fire

November 22, 2014

(Arnolds Park)– A close call Tuesday evening for a lakes area restaurant.

The Arnolds Park/Okoboji Fire Department was called around 8:10 p.m. to Mineral City in Arnolds Park after getting a report of a fire in one corner of the building.

Employees using fire extinguishers had most of the fire extinguished by the time firefighters arrived. Fire Chief Chris Yungbluth says firefighters opened the corner of the building and quickly put out the rest of the fire with little effort.

Yunbluth says the restaurant was open at the time. Everyone got out safely and no injuries were reported.

Yungbluth says an investigation determined the fire was the result of improperly discarded smoking materials.

Mild smoke damage was reported to the restaurant; moderate smoke damage was reported to some basement apartments and minimal structural damage was reported to the outside of the building and one corner of a basement apartment. Total damage was estimated at about five thousand dollars.

Firefighters were on the scene about an hour.
