Arnolds Park Public Library Invites You To Meet Lily, The Library Dog

August 11, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– Spend some time at the Arnolds Park Public Library and you may just meet a new best friend. Librarian Cara Rice says they have a new four legged, furry mascot: Lily, the Library Dog…

“We originally had two guinea pigs that were kind of our library mascots, and unfortunately they had passed away and we had a lot of young families and patrons who were really missing having that there and the opportunity presented itself for Deb to purchase Lily from Indiana and she just was perfect and met all the requirements in terms of what we were looking for of having a therapy dog and incorporating here into a reading program for young kids. We’ve had a tremendous response to this and it’s just really been great for the kids who maybe either just want to read to the dog or maybe they’re having some difficulties with reading, because Lily just, as long as you love her and read to her she doesn’t really care what you say, so.”

Rice says they realize not everyone is fond of dogs, although Lily is extremely outgoing and very friendly. For that reason, she says Lily is at the Arnolds Park Public Library during set times…

“Lily is at the library 9:00 to 1:00 on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and from 1:00 until 6:00 on Wednesdays. Tuesdays are our story time days which get a little hectic so we typically give her the day off that day.”

Arnolds Park city council members Wednesday evening gave their formal approval for the library’s new mascot.
