Arnolds Park Moving Ahead With Lakeview Boulevard Project

July 21, 2022 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– Planned improvements to a stretch of Lakeview Boulevard in Arnolds Park are moving forward. Meeting in special session Wednesday afternoon, the city council voted to proceed with the next phase of the project.

A bid was awarded about a year ago. A number of property owners in that area were opposed to the project and sued the city in an attempt to stop it. That suit was later dismissed in district court. The group appealed and lost.

City Clerk Linda Nase explains the scope of the work that will be going on in the Pillsbury Point area…

“We will be placing a sidewalk around Pillsbury Point. The majority of it will be located on state property, and this will connect with an existing sidewalk that we had done a couple of years ago past the point and down to the Sunset Beach area. Eventually we will be cleaning up the bank, that will be Imagine Iowa Great Lakes is providing some funds for the bank clean up.”

Nase says the project is also being done in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources…

“We have an agreement with them to put the sidewalk on their property, trying to get it out as close to the point as we can.”

The project is scheduled to start after this coming Labor Day.
