Arnolds Park City Council Plans To Appoint Someone To Fill Vacant Seat

November 25, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Arnolds Park)– The Arnolds Park City Council met in special session this (Mon.) morning and voted four-to-nothing to proceed with the intent to appoint someone to fill a seat that was left vacant with the recent passing of councilman Jim Jensen. Mayor Jim Hussong…

“We need to replace him within the next 60 days. They are big shoes to fill because he added a lot to the council. But right now the general consensus is to appoint somebody at the December meeting. So we’ll get together and think of some names and appoint at the next meeting in December.”

Under Iowa Code, anyone opposed to the appointment can file a petition requesting a special election to fill the vacancy. They have to do that within 14 days after the publication of a notice to appoint or within 14 days after the appointment is made.

Hussong says Jensen, a longtime council member, is definitely going to be missed…

“He did everything from drive the Queen to real estate to owning a marina here so he had a lot of experience with business and he was a great addition. He added a lot to, you know, we’re very pro-business and pro with the community and he was a big part of that and he’s going to be sadly missed but we’re hoping to find somebody that can fill his shoes.”

As we reported previously, Jim Jensen passed away earlier this month at the age of 74.
