(Arnolds Park)– The city of Arnolds Park has been awarded a 75-thousand dollar grant through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources’ Resource and Enhancement Program, or REAP.
City Administrator Ron Walker says the money will be used to enhance the area around the Abbey Gardner cabin and historic site.
Walker says it’s on top of another 75-thousand dollar REAP grant the city received in 2005 that was used to purchase two adjoining parcels of land and demolish some old cabins on them.
Walker says the latest grant will help offset plans to put in some public restrooms, a shelterhouse, sidewalks and trails, parking, and low impact development features such as rain gardens and bioswales.
Walker says a timeframe hasn’t been set for the project. He says they’ll be meeting with officials with the state historical society and DNR to reach agreements on ownership, maintenance and easements.
