(Cherokee)– Area women who own or manage farmland are urged to attend a meeting Thursday, May 12th in Cherokee to discuss conservation and participate in a field tour. The event will be held that day from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Cherokee County Conservation Board headquarters located on the southwest side of Cherokee.
The program is titled “Women Caring For the Land”.
According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, women own or co-own 47 percent of the state’s farmland and often express strong conservation values in meetings and surveys. However, many aren’t sure how to reach their goals and what resources are available to help them.
Organizers say the May 12th program is designed to do just that by offering a peer-to-peer informal discussion.
The session will be facilitated by women conservation experts who can share resources available on USDA cost-share programs, state loans and other options.
All interested women are welcome, including owners, operators and inheritors of farmland. A free lunch will be provided. Those planning to attend should RSVP by calling Tracy Rasmussen at (712) 225-4151 by Tuesday, May 10th.
The program will begin with registration and coffee at 8:30 a.m. with the discussion beginning at 9:00 a.m. The program will continue through the day, ending at about 3:30 p.m.
