(Undated)– Numerous local law enforcement agencies will be participating in the latest campaign to keep drunk drivers off the road.
It’s been dubbed “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”.
The special enforcement will be conducted this coming Thursday, August 25th, through September 7th.
The campaign is part of a national effort by the National Highway Traffic Administration.
While the number of alcohol-related fatalities in the country fell from 2008 to 2009, officials say the fatality rates from drunk driving are still too high. In Iowa, officials say there were 371 fatalities in 2009, with 92 of those related to alcohol.
Seven fatalities, two of them alcohol-related, were reported during a special enforcement campaign conducted the same time a year ago. Nearly 35,500 traffic violations were reported during the sweep.
