Area Fire Departments To Participate In Natural Gas Training Exercise

November 22, 2014

(Spirit Lake)– Area fire departments will participate in a natural gas training exercise this coming Tuesday in Spirit Lake.

Black Hills Energy will conduct the exercise, which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. September 27th on a portion of Lincoln Avenue north of 23rd Street in Spirit Lake.

Officials with Black Hills Energy say the scenario will be that of an automobile striking an above-ground gas fixture. They say firefighters will use hose streams and chemical extinguishers to put out a controlled natural gas fire enveloping an old automobile.

In another exercise, firefighters will practice techniques to safely contain and extinguish different types of natural gas fires, including simulated pipeline punctures.

Firefighters from Spirit Lake, Arnolds Park, Estherville, Lake Park, Milford, Okoboji, Superior, Terril and Wallingford have been invited to participate.
