(Spirit Lake)– Area farmers are again reminded March 15th is the deadline to sign up for crop insurance. Larry Lago of the Dickinson County Farm Services Agency says producers wanting to qualify for certain USDA programs or simply obtain some form of production or revenue coverage on their 2012 crops need to be aware of the deadline.
One of those programs, known as SURE, or Supplemental Revenue Assistance, provides financial assistance to producers who sustain crop revenue losses due to natural disasters. But to be eligible, the producer must have a federal crop insurance policy and obtain coverage on all insurable crops on all farms in all counties they have an interest in for 2012, as well as obtain coverage on all uninsurable crops through the USDA Farm Service Agency’s Non-insured Crop Disaster Assistance Program, or NAP.
