Another Musical Takes The Stage This Week At Okoboji Summer Theatre

July 24, 2023 Steve Schwaller

(Okoboji)– Another musical hits the stage this week at Okoboji Summer Theatre. Ali Morooney is the Director and Choreographer for Cole, a Musical Review, which opens Tuesday evening. She says it highlights the life and times of musician Cole Porter…

“Starting his composition journey through Yale and his work in Paris and his work on Broadway, his work in Hollywood, and then all the way up through his master piece, many of us would call it “Kiss My Kate”, and you’re going to hear a ton of great music, some of your Cole Porter favorites. And I bet you’re going to hear maybe some new Cole Porter songs that you never heard before, so come and join us. It’s going to be a really good time.”

She adds the music of Cole Porter covers several decades and reflects how he grew in the industry over those years…

“It’s really been fun for us in rehearsals to explore and learn with the actors how his style grew and changed from the teens all the way into through the ’40’s and how the sophistication just continues to grow and grow, particularly with the lyrics which are so witty. They’re so funny. We’ve just been enjoying the humor.”

Tickets are available by stopping by the Box Office at Okoboji Summer Theatre; by calling 332-7773; or by emailing boxoffice@okobojisummertheatre.org.
