Annual Outdoor Classroom for Dickinson County students Sept. 6

The Dickinson soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring their 34th Annual Sixth Grade Outdoor Classroom Thursday at the Kettleson Hogsback area near Spirit Lake.  Sixth grade students from all four Dickinson county School Districts will be participating in the classroom, including students from Graettinger/Terril, Harris-Lake Park, Okoboji and Spirit Lake.

The students will be learning about waterfowl, falconry, boating and water safety, wetlands, storm water management, trees, corn and pigs, retriever dogs and participate in a food chain scavenger hunt.

The classes will be conducted by members of the Dickinson Soil and Water Conservation District, the Iowa DNR, Dickinson County Conservation Board, the Iowa Great Lakes Water Safety Council, Iowa Lakeside Lab, Iowa State University Extension, Trees Forever, and the Dickinson County Animal Clinic.

The goal of the Outdoor Classroom is to provide a unique learning experience and an increased understanding of the environment.
