(Lakefield, Mn.)– An organization that provides school supplies for students at Jackson County Central will hold a fundraising event this coming Saturday, February 7th. Alyssa Anderson of Supplies For Kids says they’ll be holding a bowl-a-thon from 1:00 until 7:00 pm at Dudley’s Garage in Lakefield…
“Supplies for Kids is a nonprofit organization. We’re going into our fourth year of being able to purchase all school supplies for JCC students Pre K-8th grade, and then we also have supplies available for high school students. Last year we spent right around $19,000 so our goal each year is to raise right around $20,000 to $25,000 to able to purchase school supplies for the kids. We are still just a small group of volunteers, five of us, and we’re super excited that a lot of businesses have partnered with us so we can do the bowl-a-thon.”
She says the cost is $100 per lane with four to six teams per lane bowling in shifts of an hour and-a-half. The cost includes bowling, pizza, popcorn and pop.
Anderson says the goal of Supplies for Kids is to make sure all JCC students are on an equal footing…
“Every student has the same supplies, every classroom is fully stocked for the students in the room. It’s just been wonderful just to see everyone has the same thing. And then it only requires the parents to have to buy water bottles, backpacks, making sure their student has gym shoes, so the other basic needs a kid needs to attend school.”
You can sign up for Saturday’s event and get more information about Supplies for Kids by calling Peterson at 712-260-0288. Anderson says they’ll be holding another fundraiser, a father-daughter dance, February 28th at the Jackson Armory. Additional details on that will be forthcoming.
