(Undated)– A very high fire danger is going to remain in place throughout the region through Thursday. A red flag warning goes into effect at 1:00 pm today (Wed.) and will run until 8:00 this (Wed.) evening. A fire weather watch will be in effect for most of the region Thursday.
Several more grass fires occurred in the region Tuesday, including a large one near Dickens that shut down a stretch of Highway 18 for a time.
Open burning is being highly discouraged until the region receives some measurable rainfall. That’s likely to happen Thursday night and Friday. That will be followed by much cooler temperatures for the weekend. Officials say that should take the edge off the fire danger.
