(Undated)– Alliant Energy is urging its customers to use extra caution with the flooding. The company urges anyone with a significant amount of water in their basement to call 1-800-255-4268 to request a no-fee temporary disconnect.
The utility provider says walking through wet or flooded homes or buildings can be dangerous. They urge everyone to exercise extreme caution, even if the power is turned off. They also remind everyone to avoid any downed power lines.
Officials with Alliant Energy also say that to keep everyone safe from rising waters in local communities, they may need to shut off electric and gas service in affected neighborhoods.
