The Kossuth County Economic Development Corporation is sponsoring a Network Meeting for area business leaders on Thursday, April 11th. Executive Director Maureen Elbert says the STEM program is designed to help build leadership and other skills in Iowa youth… “STEM is an acronym that stands for science, technology, engineering and math. We’re pretty honored here in our area that Iowa Lakes Community College was one of those six designated STEM hubs in the state of Iowa, so we’re pretty proud of our community college and we’re pretty proud of them being able to have a type of hands-on initiative that’s going to be able to assist our young youth from the K-12 program because this ranges from Kindergarten all the way up to a 12th grade senior. There’s a team component which teaches them leadership ability. How do you work as a team.”
She notes that the meeting is designed for area business leaders to help them understand more about the impacts of the STEM program on the future work force… “We’re pretty excited about this and we feel that, you know, it’s our job to help educate our area businesses and help get them more knowledgeable about what is happening and how they can look at potentially participating, just really getting more engaged.”
The Network Meeting is slated for April 11th at the KC Hall in Algona. Registration is requested by Monday, April 1st.
