Ag Secretary Mike Naig Gives Update On Iowa Harvest

October 14, 2024 Steve Schwaller

(Des Moines)– Iowa farmers are taking advantage of dry conditions this harvest season. Iowa Ag Secretary Mike Naig says nore than half of the soybean crop is in the bin and the corn harvest is about 25-percent complete…

“Harvest in Iowa stretches on really through into the month of November and I really don’t expect that to be any different, though I would say folks are making tremendous progress.”

Naig says while the dry weather has allowed the harvest to rapidly progress, it is causing some concern…

“Maybe the only concern would be about high dry it actually is and it can create hazardous conditions from a fire standpoint.”

Fortunately, there have been very few field or combine fires so far this season locally.
