(Spirit Lake)– Heavy thunderstorms late Monday night and very early this (Tues.) morning brought more unwanted rain to the region, causing further delays for farmers trying to get spring planting and field work done. 1.44 inches of rain fell overnight at the KUOO studios.
All of the rain is also worsening the flooding going on along the Little Sioux River. Flood warnings remain in effect for the river from west of Milford downstream all the way to the Cherokee area. As of 8:00 pm Monday the Little Sioux west of Milford was at 12.7 feet. Flood stage there is 12 feet. It’s expected to rise to at least 13.5 feet later today (Tues.). A flood warning for that area is in effect until further notice. At Spencer, the Little Sioux was at 11.4 feet as of 8:15 pm Monday. Flood stage is 10 feet. A flood warning is in effect for that portion of the river until further notice. At Linn Grove the Little Sioux was at 18.9 feet as of 9:00 am Monday. Flood stage there is 18.0 feet.
Forecasters say additional rises are likely. Additional rain is in the forecast Wednesday and Thursday.
