Additional Details Released Into Arrests Of Lyon County Courthouse Burglary Suspects

December 24, 2025

(Rock Rapids)– Authorities in Lyon county have released some additional details into the arrests of two suspects in connection with the burglary at the courthouse in Rock Rapids last week.

Sheriff Brian Hilt says after they were able to identify the suspects through security video, authorities learned the suspects had been given a ride to Chamberlain, South Dakota and that on December 19th they had reason to believe the two were at an apartment in or near Whitewood, South Dakota.

Hilt says law enforcement officers in that state were waiting for additional resources when they received a report of a vehicle that had been stolen nearby from where the suspects were at. They determined through an investigation the suspects used that vehicle to travel to Spearfish, where they were taken into custody around 1:00 am December 20th.

Luciano Eliseo Sanchez and Brandon Lyle High Pipe remain in the custody of South Dakota authorities pending extradition to Iowa where they face multiple charges in the courthouse burglary.

On a related note, Hilt says they are still unaware of a possible motive, adding that they don’t believe there’s been a significant breach of any personal data stemming from the incident. Hilt also says they’re still trying to determine a dollar amount of damage to the courthouse.
