(Estherville)– Authorities in Estherville have released the identity of a bicyclist who collapsed and later died at a local hospital as RAGBRAI was passing through that city earlier in the week. Estherville police identify him as 63-year-old Thomas McCarthy of Florida. Police Chief Brent Shatto says Estherville Ambulance personnel administered CPR and an AED on the scene. McCarthy was then transported to Avera Holy Family Hospital where he passed away.
Meanwhile, authorities say the man who died on the RAGBRAI route Monday in Jackson county was misidentified by them. The correct identity of that man is 62-year-old Mark Spoo of Colorado. Authorities had earlier identified the victim as a man from Texas and with a different name.
