(Storm Lake)– We’re learning some additional details into an upcoming video that will be filmed in the area in a collaborative effort involving the Iowa Lakes Corridor Development Corporation. Trevor Smith, the Corridor’s Senior Vice President of Economic Development, told the Buena Vista County Board of Supervisors Tuesday the region has been selected to be part of a documentary series titled “My Town”…
“It’s by Cory Hepola who was a former news anchor up in the Twin Cities. He started his own documentary series highlighting rural communities back in his hometown. In Minnesota that series was called Rural By Choice. It was an Emmy nominated documentary. It’s on You Tube. I encourage you guys to go check it out. It’s actually fascinating, but what it does is it highlights rural communities and kind of breaks down some of the stereotypes surrounding those and why people should live in rural communities.”
Smith says lead stories are expected to be featured from Storm Lake, Spencer, and Estherville…
“It should be around a 20 minute or so episode. We’re the only area in Iowa that was selected. There’s four towns in Minnesota, one in North Dakota, one in Wisconsin, so it gives our state and our area a great opportunity. And it’s less about the vacation and not much about like a brochure of the area, but more so of lifestyle, a day in the life, and kind of find those stories and break down some of those misconceptions.”
As we reported previously, Cory Hepola will be the keynote speaker at the Corridor’s annual Business Recognition Luncheon January 31st in Spencer. Hepola will oversee the filming of the documentary in the days following that. The episode featuring the corridor will be released in the fall of 2024.
