(Des Moines)– Governor Chet Culver says 15 additional Iowa counties affected by January’s severe winter storm have been added to the Presidential disaster declaration granted early this month. The additions bring the total number of counties covered to 27.
Culver announced the additions Thursday and said the declaration will be critical in helping affected areas recover from the storm.
Counties in our area that were added to the declaration Thursday include Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Emmet, Palo Alto and Pocahontas.
The declaration provides assistance to state and local governments and certain private non-profit organizations for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities.
Dickinson county was added to the list a couple weeks ago.
