A SW Minnesota Agency Is Seeking Grant Requests For Substance Abuse Prevention Projects

October 23, 2025

(Jackson, Mn.)– A human services agency that serves Jackson and Cottonwood counties in southwest Minnesota is accepting grant applications for substance abuse prevention projects. Lindsay Chapman-Nesseth of Des Moines Valley Health and Human Services says they’re accepting the applications until October 31st

“Whether you’re a public or private group or a nonprofit or business, you’re encouraged to apply for grants up to $24,000 per project. Projects that would expand substance use treatment or recovery services, any prevention projects that people may have in the works, and so, you know, whether it’s a school that wants to develop a new substance use curriculum or some type of a campaign or other prevention efforts that might happen in the community. Community education, or speakers, might be another project that somebody might be working on.”

Chapman-Nesseth says the grants will be funded through a nationwide settlement from opioid distributors and manufacturers…

“What that is bringing into our community is a little bit over like $1.1 million between Jackson and Cottonwood counties over the next, about 18 years. And so these funds are all designated directly for substance use prevention and reducing harm and providing recovery services.”

Chapman-Nesseth says they’ll open a second application period in the spring.
