(Des Moines)– Iowa State Senator Mike Bousselot says he plans to introduce a bill for the state of Iowa to purchase Minnesota’s southernmost tier of counties. It would include Rock, Nobles, Jackson, Martin, Faribault, Freeborn, Mower, Fillmore and Houston counties.
Bousselot, an attorney, serves as Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee. He says he’s serious about the proposal but hasn’t suggested how the state of Iowa would pay for it. Even then, a change in the border would require an act of Congress.
Bousselot says there would be an immediate investment in agriculture in the nine counties that would be affected.
