A Longtime Advisor At Spencer Hospital Is Stepping Down

February 27, 2025 Steve Schwaller

(Spencer)– A longtime member of the Spencer Hospital Advisory Committee is stepping down. John Cotton’s resignation becomes effective today (Thurs.).

Cotton’s involvement stems back to 1993 when he helped create the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation and soon joined the group’s board. In 2005 Cotton was appointed to the Spencer Hospital Board of Trustees where he served 12 years. Following that he served on the hospital’s Advisory Committee.

Cotton helped raise funds for the Abben Cancer Center; helped with the creation of the hospital’s birth center and assisted in the development of Spencer Hospital’s new Emergency Department. He was also instrumental in the acquisition of the Hartley Clinic, the opening of the Spencer Dialysis Center and the purchase of Northwest Iowa ENT. He also helped oversee the addition of advanced medical technology and the remodeling of diagnostic imaging departments at Spencer Hospital.

Amanda Bare, President of the Spencer Hospital Board of Trustees, thanked Cotton for his years of service and leadership.
